Lori’s Book Loft

Hello, I’m Lori Shriver, and this is my newsletter. At Lori’s Book Loft there are no bells, no whistles, just shelves brimming with stories and rows of books waiting for someone to read them. Mostly, this space is about books and art—but I reserve the right to wander.

Sure — I’m a reviewer and writer who freelanced for a publisher and worked as a library supervisor. But before any of that—I’m a reader. I remember the first time a page really pulled me in, when the words stopped feeling like ink and started feeling like someone talking directly to me. That’s when it clicked. That’s when I knew I was hooked.

Here, in the Midwest, we do seasons in full color—each one bold enough to change the tempo of our days and shift the rhythm without asking permission. Just when we think we’ve found our stride, the light changes, the air turns, and the world asks something new of us. There’s humility in that. And hope.

Maybe that’s why it feels like such a good place to read—and to write. The seasons teach us to pay attention, to notice what’s changing, to hold fast to what matters, and to trust that another chapter is always on its way.

Here, I’ll include some of the book-related happenings near me—readings, releases, gatherings—anything that keeps the literary pulse alive. I’ll also share the pieces of myself I don’t sanitize—stories in progress, unfiltered journal entries, the books that leave bruises, the history that has teeth, the art that challenges perception. I lay out my questions, my contradictions, the half-formed thoughts that refuse to stay quiet.

These are the things I come back to - when I remember that creating, reflecting, and staying curious are not indulgences but lifelines. If my content nudges you to slow down, to dig deeper, to honor the quiet things that light you up inside, then it’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do.

Why Subscribe

Join Lori’s Book Loft—because the real heart isn’t only in the books and art we explore, but in the conversations they open within us and between us. It lives in the thoughtful comments, the shared reflections, the quiet moments when a passage or a painting helps us see ourselves more clearly. Through books and art, we remember who we are and imagine who we’re still becoming.

If you’re craving depth, connection, and inspiration that feels both grounding and expansive, I hope you’ll join us. There is room for your voice, your story, and your way of seeing the world.
